 2013 AKA Mid-American Championship May 24-26

SPDs are not only great drivers but even better people

After a week & a half that about included 37 hours of driving, spending 2 days in Moore Ok doing relief work with tornado victims 3 trips where we arrived at our destination between 2 and 4 in the morning and little sleep. I was just thankful for being able to be there. Being able to spent time with friends and family was truly a blessing. We pulled in to the hotel parking lot at 4am unloaded got a few hours of sleep then headed to the track. They had received a lot of rain over the past few days so the track was soaked.

Despite all the rain Saturday we stared qualifying around noon, there was no practice that morning. First up 4x4 Sct, after about 2 min most of the trucks were out of the race due to the mud and water. Mine stopped running about 5 min in do to weight from the mud, no one finished the race the track slowly got better but we were the sacrificial lambs lol. Round 2 I lost the power wire fist lap on my 4x4 sct“so 2 dnf” e-buggy was good just trying to learn the track and nitro buggy it started to rain hard in the middle of the race so it was postponed and moved to Sunday. We only got in 1 & a half rounds before the rain started again, round 3 were canceled. Sunday after more rain that night we got started at 10:45. With only a few runs on the track I was able to qualify for the b-main, in e-buggy, Nitro buggy, and 4x4 Sct.

Mains= no bumps for electric classes. First up e-buggy race 8 b-main/qualified 11th it was a good race with 2ndthrough 7th all on the same lap. I worked my way through traffic getting as high as 3rd but ended up 5th. Next up Race 9 4x4sct b-main. Qualified 7th in the b after not finishing any heats, It only took me a few lap to move out front and run there for most of the race. With about 1 min to go my esc shut down for some unknown reason and I ended up 5th.

Race 12 Nitro Buggy B-main Qualified 11thB-Main I had a good race moved to the front a few times but had a few flame outs that took me out of contention. This was without a doubt a humbling week/weekend after taking a truck and trailer full of donations to Moore OK being in the middle of the deviation helping families dig the little remains they had. The fact that I was there being able to loan a motor to a good friend getting his e-buggy running kful for the opportunity to be there, being able to spend time with friends& family is truly a blessing spending time with friends and family was truly a blessing. Then on top of that I got to watch and meet drivers like Mark Pavidis,Ryan Lutz, Jared Tebo who are not only great drivers but even better people. I didn't have any podium pictures so here is a link to my facebook page. I uploaded pictures from my time in Moore OK, and there are also some from this race.

Thank you again everyone that supports me and my racing, without your help trips like this would not be possible. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Speed-Monkey-RC/437563336276406?ref=ts&fref=ts#!/scottie.brewer.7

The latest firmware information

by FalconSEKIDO RC Division
on May 24, 2013
with 0 comments

Dear friends, HWNA has confirmed the following information with our head office HOBBYWING R&D.

1. The firmware named "V1.01_130515a[/b]_2R" and "V1.00_111207a_2R" are available for XERUN-150A / XERUN-80A / XERUN SCT PRO ESC.

  • "V1.01_130515a_2R" firmware in the USB LINK SOFTWARE V3.3 has compatibility problem withTenshock 4 poles and 6 poles motors. We do NOT recommend to use our ESC with Tenshock motor at this moment.
  • "V1.00_111207a_2R" has compatibility problem with Tenshock 4 poles and 6 poles motors; however, ESC loaded with V1.00_111207a_2R constrainedly works with Tenshock motors.

The latest USB LINK SOFTWARE package to Both HWNA & HW head office website.

  • it contains the "V1.00_111207a_2R" firmware. So users of XERUN-150A / XERUN-80A / XERUN SCT PRO may downgrade their ESCs to this firmware to work with Tenshock motor.

We keep the "V1.01_130515a_2R" firmware in the USB LINK SOFTWARE because it works better for most of other 4 poles motors (especially Hobbywing's own 4 poles sensored motors, XERUN-4068 / XERUN-4274 / XERUN-3656), but Tenshock is an exception.

Firmware History log can be find here

Subject: Compatibility Problem of Tenshock Motors with Hobbywing ESC firmware

Dear friends,

Hobbywing released the latest USB Link Software (V3.3) which
contains the latest firmware for car ESC.

Today we found the latest firmware has compatibility problem with Tenshock
4 poles and 6 poles motors. The motor and/or the ESC may possibility be
damaged with the latest firmware. We are currently working for the solutions.

If you use Tenshock 4 poles or 6 poles motor, please DO NOT
update the ESC firmware to the latest version in the USB Link Software
V3.3.  Until the problem is solved, Hobbywing 4 poles motors are strongly
recommended to use with the new ESC firmware.

++++ message from Brian +++++

Here are my Race Reports from April. I had a chance to run the 4000KV in the short course and its amazing. I also swapped out the 2200KV motor in my buggy for the 1800KV. It runs alot better in the buggy as it is just the right amount of power.

April 6th – RC PRO SERIES Mid Atlantic Round 1 – Awesome RC Hobbies in Fredericksburg, VA

On April 6th I attended the First Round of the RC Pro Series Mid Atlantic Division. The race was held at Awesome RC Hobbies in Warrenton Virginia. The race drew around 100 entries for the one day event. I decided to run four classes with the help of my pitman DAD! With his help I was able to qualify TQ in Pro Truggy, TQ in 4x4 Short Course, 2nd in Pro Buggy and  4th in E Buggy. 30 Minute Pro A Mains and Triple A Mains for the electric classes. Needless to say we were very busy once the mains rolled around. I was able to win the last two Electric mains in both classes to give me the overall in E Buggy and 4x4 SC. In Nitro Buggy I broke a front shock 2 mins in and retired around the 10 minute mark when I broke the outdrive. In Pro Truggy I would battle from close to 20 seconds back from the leader to take the lead, but after a costly mistake would have to settle for 2nd. SS Enduros for SC, SS Grids all day for truggy, SS Grids for qualifying on buggies, and than SS Citys for the mains.  Thanks to all of my sponsors: Awesome RC Hobbies, AKA, Hobbywing | Falcon Sekido, Radiopost, FTW Bodies, SMC Batteries, GMK Supply, Venom, 4C Hobby Supply, Upgrade RC and PCDRC Graffix!!

April 13th – Roar Region 2 Championships Round 1 – RC Pro Racing in Hayes, VA

Anticipation for this event has been building over the winter break. The Roar Region 2 Series has had the highest entry, and fiercest competition over the last 3 seasons out of any other races held in my region. With over a hundred entries of the fastest racers in the Region, it was a really close day of racing. This series is a 5 race, with one drop that determines the Roar Region 2 Champions in Buggy, Truggy and E Buggy. Here is the link to the series with all of the dates and tracks: http://www.roarregion2racing.com/index.html

On to the racing. The track conditions were very tricky. The track changes from round to round, and gets faster as the day goes on. Than in the mains it starts to slow down again. Tire choice is huge. 1st Round I ran City Blocks and Enduro’s, 2nd Round it was Grid Iron II’s and City Blocks, 3rd Round it was Handlebars and Grid Iron II’s. For the Mains it was back to City Blocks in all Classes. After Qualifying I was 2nd In  Truggy, 2nd in E Buggy, 3rd in Nitro Buggy and TQ in Short Course. We ran 20 Minute Nitro Mains as we were losing daylight, and double electric mains. In truggy I finished right where I qualified in 2nd, Nitro buggy I dnf’ed and finished 4th, in E Buggy I would finish 2nd in A1, and while leading A2 DNF with a few minutes to go, leaving me with a 3rd overall. In SC I would battle with 2nd and 3rd as we swapped the lead back and forth, I would end up second after the best race of the day.

Thanks to all of my sponsors: Awesome RC Hobbies, AKA, Hobbywing | Falcon Sekido, Radiopost, FTW Bodies, SMC Batteries, GMK Supply, Venom, 4C Hobby Supply, Upgrade RC and PCDRC Graffix!!

The race saw the attendance of all five former or recent IFMAR EP World Champions in Modify class and an entrance of about 150 drivers in Open Brushless class. The hot weather in Bangkok became a killer to electrical equipments, some of the top drivers suffered from the power problem caused by extremely high temperature. With the reliable V3.1 power base (XERUN-120A-V3.1 and XERUN-120A-V3), Hara and Lee completed the perfect double win for Hobbwying!

What is " Boost Timing" ?

by FalconSEKIDO RC Division
on February 14, 2013
with 0 comments

Our ESC allows a driver for many customization'   But,  if you don't use each function correctly, your ESC may behave against your will.  - That is the last thing you want to experience...

Today, I asked one of the SPDs (Sponsored Driver) about the tips of ' Boost Timing'.

When Using boost timing ,timing punch dictates how quickly the boost is applied, once the start rpm is reached, and it does this in how much RPM per step of boost timing. As an example, boost timing is 20, start RPM is 6,000, and timing punch is 300. Using that, all the boost will have been applied by 12,000rpm (6,000+[300 x 20]=12,000). So from that, you can see that using a bigger timing punch value will result in the full boost being applied later, which makes the application smoother, and generates less heat. Adjusting the boost start and the timing punch are key to getting a good esc setup, and where knowledge of what rpms are being seen on track is really helpful. in short If you want a smoother application put the timing punch at a higher value so it slowly adds timing throughout a larger span of the rpm.     - SPD -CR

Hope this helps,  Everyone, please give us a comment if there is any..

Cheers!
